Church

St Mary Magdalen High Street, Ripley, Surrey.

The chancel is 12th Century; the nave is Victorian.

Ripley's greatest claim to fame in the last century was its association with the early days of bicycling as the first generation of cyclists used to come to Ripley for a day ride from London. They subscribed to enable the installation of our organ which is of very good quality. They also subscribed to the memorial window for the ladies who ran The Anchor pub next to the church which was the pub used by many of the cyclists.

A brass plaque in church commemorates the first man to cycle faster than 30 miles per hour.

In recent years Ripley became famous as the place of birth of Eric Clapton the famous guitarist.
