Out and About

There are plenty of things to do in and around Ripley from walks, picnics, boating, cycling routes, fairs, markets and the spectacular bonfire night held on the last Saturday of October to name a few.

Ripley Green

Ripley green has a childrens playground, picnic tables and plenty of space to stroll around whether you're walking the dog or yourself! Ripley's green is one of the oldest cricket grounds in the country and for around two hundred and fifty years the game has been played on it. Surrey County Cricket Club had its origins on pitches like this one, and the great players of the late 18th century and 19th century appeared here in matches such as 22 Surrey men v England in 1802.

River Wey

Established as a commercial waterway in 1651, the River Wey was used to transport a variety of goods, including gunpowder used in the Napoleonic Wars. Find out more about The Wey Valley

Canons and Cornmills
A flat walk from the village of Ripley. The route follows part of the River Wey Navigation, which was one of the earliest British rivers to be made fully navigable, and is now a popular waterway for recreational boating.

The walk passes Pyrford Church, Pyrford Lock and Ockham Mill, and close to the ruins of Newark Priory which was formerly occupied by Augustinian canons.

Ripley Bonfire

Ripley holds one of the largest bonfire parades in Surrey, on the last Saturday of October each year, when residents and visitors alike celebrate Bonfire night with a torchlit procession, huge bonfire and a stunning firework display. A large funfair fills the wonderful village green which is the heart of the village.
